What makes Kristiania a good place to work?

As an institution, Kristiania is constantly changing. Our ambitious goal is to become Norway's first independent university, a “work-life university”. In the process towards achieving university accreditation, there is one aspect of our operation that we are particularly attentive to: That Kristiania should be a good and attractive workplace for all our colleagues.

Our foundation consists of highly competent employees at both the academic and administrative levels – and we cooperate extensively across departments. I am proud of our vibrant and engaging working environment that constantly presents new and exciting challenges for our employees. Our high rate of innovation, constant development and strong growth provide great opportunities for professional and personal development, both for staff and students.

The fact that we are a somewhat "different" institution makes Kristiania a very exciting place to work.

Kristiania is both urbane and practically oriented. This means that together we work towards a seamless relationship between working life and university college, and between research and education. We will contribute to the breadth, diversity, dualism and internationalisation of the Norwegian university sector. Most of us have the opportunity to work from home, but we have also given priority to establish our offices and campus in state-of-the-art facilities in the city centre both in Oslo and Bergen. Here we are located close to both industry and commerce, politics and cultural life.

Culture is important for Kristiania. We were established by Ernst G. Mortensen, who was very concerned with both education for all and culture as an important part of society. After his death, his four sons established an independent educational foundation that owns and runs the university college with its own statutes and purposes. This states that we are also to be a cultural institution. Preserving and promoting culture permeates everything we do. We are constantly seeking new impulses to develop further. The fact that we are a somewhat "different" institution makes Kristiania a very exciting place to work. Freedom with responsibility is extremely important for us, and we have a dynamic environment that includes people from all over the world.

Over time, we have become a major and important social actor that contributes to change in society through education, research, encouraging artistic development and disseminating knowledge. I am sure that my colleagues appreciate the unique opportunity to make a difference in a broader perspective. I believe that our clear, distinct and ambitious goal to become Norway's first independent university is a task that proves both exciting and motivating. Our social mandate ensures that we all work together towards one common goal, based on our Kristiania-environment.

Our vision is what identifies us. Kristiania exists to create a better future, and what is extra special about our workplace is that all our staff contribute to this mandate. In order to create a better future together, we work to increase our research activity, strengthen the development of our vocational school and significantly increase the number of students. We believe that Norway Inc. needs all heads and hands on deck. Our foundation has written history before with over 107 years of education for all. We'll do it again! Will you join us on this journey?
