Background
Andreas Bjørneboe is professor in dance at Kristiania University College, department of performing arts, and teaches modern dance techniques such as Graham and Cunningham, and classical ballet. He also contributes artistically towards students’ performance practice, both choreographing new work and rehearsing existing repertory.
Bjørneboe has had an extensive international career as a performing artist and has danced mainly in New York, where he was part of major ballet companies and epoch-making ensembles. He has worked with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, Alwin Nikolais Dance Company and Murray Louis Dance Company, Pearl Lang Dance Theater and Alberta Ballet Company in Canada.
During his career, he has danced a varied and wide repertoire of different genres such as classical and neo classical works, and from historical modern dance to contemporary dance theater and film created by renowned artists such as Martha Graham, Alwin Nikolais, Donald Byrd, Doug Varone , Birgit Cullberg, John Butler, Murray Louis, Pearl Lang, Graeme Murphy, Domy Reiter-Soffer, Fernand Nault, Sergei Gritsai, Brydon Paige, Robert La Fosse, Ron Howell, Rodney Griffin, Giuseppe Carbone, Gray Veredon, Ali Pourfarrokh, Igal Perry and many more.
As choreographer, Bjørneboe has created several commissioned works for various educational institutions and professional performers. His choreographies have been performed on stages in the USA, France, Uganda, Tanzania, and Norway.
Parallel to Bjørneboes performing and creative activities, he has worked as a dance teacher at various educational institutions, including the Accademia Nazionale di Danza, Rome, Oslo National Academy of Arts, The Norwegian College of Dance, University of Stavanger, Arts Academy Turku, University of Applied Sciences, Finland, Bårdar Akademiet, TASUBA College of Arts Bagamoyo, Tanzania, Makerere University Kampala, Uganda and Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, as well as lecture demonstrations for public and private school students throughout the New York City area.
