What's the deal with these numbers?

Academic books in the library are sorted according to the Dewey classification system, with the author's surname behind it (e.g. 658.8 Fra). Each issue represents a theme, making it easier to find books based on their content.

100 Philosophy & psychology
200 Religion
300 Social sciences
400 Language
500 Science
600 Technology
700 Arts & Recreation
800 Literature
900 History & geography

Each class is divided into 10 subcategories, which in turn can be divided into 10. If we have more than three digits, we put a full stop at the end, for a more detailed division of the "main number". Of course, you don't have to remember these numbers in your head, but maybe the system makes more sense the next time you visit. We have also marked the shelves with numbers and themes, but you can always ask us if you need help.
