Do you require adaptations for everyday student life?
If you have a disability or special need that makes studying more difficult, you could be eligible for adaptations. A special need may, for example, arise if you are pregnant or if you care for young children.
Do you require adaptations in teaching? This can, in many cases, be solved by getting in touch with the lecturer for the course in question.
If there are multiple issues that require adaptation, it would be appreciated if you could contact us at the Department for Student Welfare as soon as possible. Together we can find the right solutions for you.
What can be adapted?
The starting point when we plan adaptations is your needs and the academic requirements of the programme of study. The types of adaptations that can be implemented vary between different programmes of study. We are responsible for some adaptations, while others are managed by the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) or the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen).
You can find some examples of adaptations below that many of our students benefit from.

How to apply for adaptations
It may be a good idea to request a meeting with your Student Advisor before applying. Click on this link to find your Student Advisor and schedule a meeting. You can also request adaptations by sending an e-mail to your contact person.
If you need adaptations to examinations, you need to complete a separate application form by the deadline. You can read more about adaptations to examinations here.
What documentation do you need to provide?
You need to submit documentation describing which disadvantages your disability leads to in your student situation. The documentation may be written by a doctor, psychologist or other specialist. If you have reading and writing difficulties, you need to submit documentation from a speech therapist or special needs teacher. You can upload documents via My Kristiania.
It is important that you get in touch with us at an early stage, so we can identify your needs and find solutions before the start of your studies. There is no deadline for applying for adaptations in everyday student life as there is for examinations. Nevertheless, it is important that you are aware that it can take some time before the adaptations are in place.
How your application will be processed
We will consider your application after assessing the documentation, your requests and needs and the academic requirements for your programme of study. Kristiania University College cannot offer any adaptations that lead to a reduction in the academic requirements for your programme of study. For this reason, there will be differences in terms of the adaptations we are able to offer for different programmes of study and courses. You will receive a written decision regarding your application.
