Social media identity among young leaders
- Project period: 2023 - 2026
- Category: Applied Research
Description
This project investigates the interplay between social media and professional and personal identities of experts in preventive health fields. On one hand, with the prevalence of social media as platforms for health promotion, many experts choose to share advice online and interact with an audience. On the other hand, identity is mirrored in the way individuals perceive and express themselves. And for many, social media function as platforms for expressing who they are, what they like, and what they achieve. It is then crucial to explore how health communicators balance their sense of selves in their interactions online.
Thus, the purpose of this project is to unravel the ambiguity of health communicators’ roles online, making social media a safer space for them and their audiences alike. Especially since these individuals carry the responsibility of preserving the health and safety of others, founded in their promotion of health advice, professional guidance, and personal lifestyle demonstrations.
