have a knowledge of the types of music business agreements "in play" at any one time with each project. Different types of recording contracts, publishing agreements and management deals will be demonstrably understood.
have a knowledge of ways in which a project can be marketed and promoted appropriately and successfully throughout the campaign.
have a knowledge of the ways in which an artist’s live career develops alongside their recording career and the importance of the two existing symbiotically.
have an in-depth knowledge of the way in which a body of work (single, E.P., album) is discovered, developed and released in the global music marketplace.
be able to self-reflect upon their own performance during the lifetime of a project looking for ways in which the individual may improve upon their skills by reading trade publications and journals.
be able to administrate any project accurately and adequately so that all industry requirements are met and communicated.

Skills

The student will...

be able to engage in critically constructive discourse referring specifically to the quality and potential of music submitted for consideration for release by the internal record label at the University College.
be able to communicate their opinions accurately and constructively allowing a discourse to reach a successful and mutually beneficial end-goal.
understand the legal frameworks and agreements of their artists presence in the digital and physical marketplace.
be able to support the release of music on the in-house record label with live events/tours.
be able to map out a logical, considered and lateral thinking marketing plan and strategy to support a release.
be able to deal with the potential for many stakeholders for each project/release and demonstrate a keen ability to communicate quickly and efficiently paying special attention to each member of a project and their specific needs, with special focus paid to artist development.

General competence

The student will…

understand the differences between good and bad legal agreements within the music industry and be able to critically assess the main points housed within each.
display a knowledge of the logistical elements required in order to see a project realisation within the marketplace on a multi-platform basis.
present creative marketing ideas associated with individual projects confidently and clearly.
display a readiness to give and receive constructive criticism by peers within the programme of study as well as instigating the same with other project stakeholders.
