has broad knowledge about methods for scientific research using qualitative information, including ethnography, archival research, interviews, and focus groups.
has broad knowledge about research design, methods of data collection and data analysis data collection methods, plus the interpretation and evaluation of findings within qualitative research
has insight into the pros and cons of qualitative methods, and in what contexts the various research designs are appropriate
is familiar with the history of research methods within media studies and political science, and is familiar with the practical application of research findings within politics and media
is familiar with artistic research as a tool of public debate or influence.

Skills

The student…

is able to carry out a simple qualitative reseach project on her/his own. This implies that the student has skills in all the stages of the research process, from research design, via data collection and data analysis, to interpretation and evaluation of findings.
has experience with the appropriate tools, for example video recordings, plus wualitative data analysis, and evaluation of findings.
is able to reflect critically over the practice of oneself and others, as well as expand his/her own understanding on the basis of the given feedback.
is able to access relevant information, assess the sources critically, and convey findings in written, oral or audiovisual form.
is able to make autonomous tactical judgements regarding the choice of methods for research and development.

General competences

has the ability to independent assessment of ethical implications, reliability and validity at all stages of the research process, from the choice of research problem and theoretical fundation, via data collection and data analysis, to the reporting and application of findings.
has a consicous and critical attitude to method when encountering empirical works, such as research articles, monographies and market research.
has insight into the design and execution of empirical research serving the purposes of strategic communication within public, privat and/or civil sectors.
is able to contribute to innovation and creativity in vocational life, through applied research, action research or contract research.
