Introduction

In this course, students will gain knowledge about how people in social groups influence and are influenced by each other, and how the individual's attitudes, thoughts and behavior can be understood in light of the social context.

The course will also provide knowledge of and skills in leadership and development of groups and teams.

  • has knowledge of and can account for key concepts and theories in social psychology
  • has knowledge of and can account for social psychology in a historical perspective, and has insight into key empirics in the field
  • has insight into how the individual's behavior, attitudes and motivation are affected by the social interaction
  • has insight into how the individual creates his or her understanding of reality on the basis of the social context the individual is part of
  • has knowledge of the prerequisites for groups to be effective and well-functioning
  • has knowledge of theories and perspectives on the establishment, development and maturation of groups and teams
  • has insight into how work in teams can affect the individual positively and negatively
  • has knowledge of the leader's role in teams, and theories of team leadership

Learning activities

The scheduled teaching is set up with lectures, supervision and discussions, with a focus on the students working in groups in academic discussions and written, academic work. The course will facilitate reflection and evaluation of students' experiences of establishing and collaborating in groups.

Student work load

Teaching / supervision / organized group work - 70 hours

Self-study, individually and in groups - 230 hours

Exam - 30 minutes

Recommended use of time in total - 300 hours and 30 minutes

Practice-related exercises will be used for the development and implementation of team and group processes.

Verifiable coursework requirements: one or more assignments that must be collectively approved

Individual qualification: G/IG (approved/not approved)

Execution: Individual and in group

Verifiable (right of appeal): Yes

Coursework requirements is to be handed or conducted in accordance with information given by the lecturer and carried out within the duration of the course, as well as registered as approved/not approved at least two weeks before the exam/exam period.

Approved coursework requirements grant students permission to take exams. Unapproved coursework requirements results in the student’s withdrawal from the exam.

Examination

Exam: Individual oral examination

Duration: 30 minutes

Grading scale: The Norwegian grading system uses the grades scale A - F, where A is the best grade, E is the lowest pass grade and F is fail.

Weighting: 100 % of the overall grade
