Practice

During the practice period, students learn to apply their subject knowledge. The practice experience contributes to the development of competence, performance and work processes. The students develop a professional gaze and get new perspectives on how subject related problems have consequences at different levels, and how this often often necessitates an interdisciplinary approach.

Subject days - "Kristiania days"

Kristiania Days are academic gatherings at Kristiania University College (four days) and consist of lectures, reflection groups and supervision. During Kristiania Days, students receive theoretical input, new perspectives, and are given space to reflect on their own professional development during the practice and to develop the theoretical grounding that enables them to analyze their own empirical data.

Start-up seminar

The purpose of the seminar is to inform about the subject, ensure that students, business mentors and the academic supervisors meet and they acquire a full understanding of the requirements and obligations during their training period - and that the Arbeidsavtale for studiepraksis is signed.

Log

Students must individually log the work in the study practice. Writing a log functions as field notes (recording of data) and provides a reflection on one's own learning process. And is delivered in advance of each subject day as a starting point for discussions in the reflection groups.

Reflection groups

In the reflection groups, the students practice discussing their own experiences from different theoretical perspectives. This provides applied understanding and insight into how theoretical and methodological knowledge can be applied to strengthen processes and projects in a work environment.

Semester assignment

At the start of the practice period, the students define a professionally relevant specialization theme and problem for their semester assignment. The work provides students with skills in applying the relevant method to plan for the gathering of data, and to understand the field's theories and models that will enable them to analyze current and relevant issues in line with current ethical norms.

The semester assignment is an independent, limited research project under supervision. It gives students general competence in communicating academic insight based on their own data from the field of practice, while mastering the subject area's conceptual apparatus and methodological discourses. The assignment can be further developed and used in the master's thesis.

Guidance

The practice period gives students a unique arena for fieldwork and data collection while the Kristiania days provide for reflection and analysis. On the subject days, students receive supervision in groups with similar themes, 3 times (per session) x 1 hour. The institutes' teachers are supervisors in their special fields. No guidance is given in the last week before submission.
