Master in Media Arts Application Requirements

Entrance exam

Applicants to the Master of Media Arts must submit both program-specific requirements and general admission requirements.

Submission

The admission documents must be submitted electronically via Mitt Kristiania.

Applicants must upload one file per task. Depending on file size and network speed, the upload may take several minutes. Applicants should not refresh the page or perform other actions that could interrupt the upload process, as this will require them to start over. A progress update will be displayed during the upload.

1. Letter of Application

The letter of application should outline the applicant’s academic area of interest, goals, and motivation for applying to the program. It should also include a preliminary description of the topic for the master’s project.

The letter of application must include:

  • Motivation and goals for applying to the program
  • Presentation of the desired topic for media arts exploration in the master’s project
  • Background of the applicant’s interest in the topic, its societal relevance, suggested research question(s) that frame the topic, methods/process frameworks, and relevant theoretical perspectives or knowledge sources.

The topic is not binding for the entire master’s period but will serve as a guideline for assigning a master’s supervisor. The letter of application must not exceed 800 words.

2. Portfolio

The applicant must submit a minimum of three and a maximum of six portfolio pieces that demonstrate their academic and artistic level.

  • Provide a brief introduction describing the theme and framework of the works/projects.
  • Describe the process and methods used in at least one of the works.
  • The portfolio may include supplementary files (e.g., video, audio, etc.) or a URL linking to a website where the works are adequately presented.

3. CV

The CV must outline the applicant’s education and work experience, independent artistic/creative practice, and any other relevant skills or experience.

General Admission Requirements

Diplomas and/or Other Documentation of Formal Qualifications

This documentation must be submitted in two locations:

  1. To the program admissions committee – for evaluation of the applicant’s program specific qualifications.
  2. To the central admissions office – to formally verify that the general admission requirements are met.

The primary teaching language/working language is English. Applicants from non-Nordic countries must provide documentation of their English proficiency.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be ranked based on:

  • Artistic and academic level
  • Previous education and experience
