Innledning

The integration of digital technology in various sectors of society continuously change how we interact. In work life this integration affects and is affected by ‘Communication’ and ‘Leadership’, two intersecting processes which are used to provide organisations with agency, purpose, and meaning. Communication through leadership, and leadership through communication, generate and sustain relationships internally in an organisation, remotely and face-to-face, as well as externally towards other stakeholders or society at large. Understanding the relationship between communication and leadership are necessary to create an open, encouraging and inclusive environment for employees and stakeholders.

This course focuses on contemporary debates and research on how communication and leadership intersect. In doing so, the course will introduce students to ideas, technologies and behavior that are found in the process where people try to accomplish something together in a given context and how they make sense of why they are doing it.

This interdisciplinary course will allow students to reflect upon two dimensions of today’s organizations: the value of applying a perspective on communication and leadership as ways to develop an inclusive organization in a diverse world, and an ability to handle the digitalization of an organization through concepts such as platformisation, mediatisation, and transmedia work.
