Understand the fundamentals and classifications of Enterprise Systems, and explore Business Process Management and its application in ES.
This course provides a foundational understanding of Enterprise Systems (ES) and their role in modern organizations. It explores the various classes of enterprise systems, their integration into business processes, and the value they bring, alongside the challenges faced during implementation. Students will learn about the lifecycle and methodologies for implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), with a focus on both on-premise and cloud-based solutions. The course covers essential business processes, including procurement, sales, manufacturing, and their integration across organizational boundaries, using real-world case studies. The key topics include Business Process Management (BPM), annotation using BPMN, and the use of enterprise data for analytics. Special emphasis will be placed on ERP and Supply Chain Management (SCM), the role of technology such as IoT, challenges and benefits, gamification, and sustainable business practices in relation to ERP and SCM. The course will include discussions on the selection of enterprise systems, managing ES implementation projects, and the socio-technical and theoretical aspects of enterprise systems. Students will engage in problem-solving activities, including case studies, and will have the opportunity to apply the concepts learned to real-world scenarios. Through instructor-led sessions and group activities, participants will enhance their understanding of ES and BPM, preparing them to contribute to the successful selection, implementation, and management of enterprise systems in organizations.
